Communications Committee seeking expressions of interest for appointment to the board of Inland Fisheries Ireland

29 Jan 2019, 15:47

The Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment is inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified members of the public who would like to be considered for an upcoming appointment to the board of Inland Fisheries Ireland.

Three of the current members of the Board were nominated by the Joint Committee. One of these nominees was appointed to the Board on 26 February 2014 for a term of 5 years and will have completed his term of office on 25 February 2019.

Section 12 of the Inland Fisheries Ireland Act 2010 outlines the appointment method for Board Members. Under Section 12(1)(b) the Joint Oireachtas Committee nominates 3 persons for appointment. Section 12(3)(c) specifically states: “The Joint Oireachtas Committee shall within a period of 90 days of being so informed, advise the Minister of the names of the persons or the person it proposes that the Minister should appoint under subsection (1)(b) giving reasons, such as relevant experience and expertise, in relation to the proposed named person or persons”.

Chair of the Committee, Hildegard Naughton T.D., said: “Oireachtas Committees are playing an ever more active role in the process leading to the appointment of persons to State Boards.”

“In that regard we invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified people who would like to be considered to fill the upcoming vacancy on this important board with a view to considering them for nomination to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment. Those putting their names forward should attach a short history of their work experience, detailing which of the criteria for appointment they satisfy, as well as a copy of their CV.”
