Health Committee to meet Minister Simon Harris to discuss cost over-runs at National Children’s Hospital

29 Jan 2019, 10:02

Minster for Health, Simon Harris, will be before the Health Committee later today as the Committee continues its examination of cost over-runs at the new National Children’s Hospital.

Secretary General of the Department of Health, Jim Breslin, will also engage with the Committee.
“Current indications are that the cost of the new National Children’s Hospital is expected to rise, leading to a knock-on impact on other health services, Chairperson of the Health Committee, Dr Michael Harty, said today.

“The Committee welcomes the opportunity to engage with Minister Harris and Mr Breslin on the explanation for the substantial cost overrun on the project. The Committee has previously expressed its frustration and deep concern over the projected over-runs and its impact on all capital investment in our health service over coming years. The Committee will be seeking answers from Minister Harris in respect of the financial control of this project.”

The meeting will start at 2.30pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here
