Good Friday Committee reiterates its support for the Good Friday Agreement

1 Feb 2019, 14:19

At its first meeting of 2019, the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement yesterday renewed its commitment to the Good Friday Agreement and expressed its desire for the Agreement to be protected in all of its aspects.

“The Good Friday Agreement is the foundation of peace in the North”, said Committee Chair, Seán Crowe TD.

“At a meeting in private session yesterday, the Joint Committee strongly reiterated its belief that the Agreement must be protected in all of its parts, especially as the possibility of a disorderly Brexit threatens peace on the island of Ireland. The Committee is extremely concerned by recent developments in Westminster and urges all parties to ensure that the protection of the peace process is paramount in negotiations.”
