Justice Committee to discuss interim report on Garda Youth Diversion Office with Commissioner Harris

7 Feb 2019, 09:00

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will discuss an interim report examining the Garda Youth Diversion Office with Commissioner Drew Harris on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 9 a.m.

“The Committee is interested in discussing the performance of the Garda Diversion Programme, which offers young offenders who admit wrongdoing the option of a caution, restitution and a referral to appropriate supports, rather than a date in criminal court,” said Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD.

“The interim report which the Garda Professional Standards Unit has produced highlights shortcomings in the Diversion Programme. The Committee looks forward to discussing this important matter with Commissioner Harris, who is making his second appearance before the Committee since his appointment,” Deputy Ó Caoláin said.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
