The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade & Defence will meet tomorrow, Thursday, at 4pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to hear from Minister Simon Coveney TD.

It is expected that Members of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will also be in attendance.

The cross sectoral and EU issues arising from the General Scheme of the Miscellaneous Provisions (Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union on 29 March 2019) Bill 2019 will be discussed.

In advance of the March 29 withdrawal, Tánaiste & Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Coveney TD will discuss preparations for, and the implications of Brexit, particularly, in the event of a ‘No Deal’ scenario.

In advance of the meeting, the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Deputy Brendan Smith, said: “The Committee is eager examine the issues facing us in relation to Brexit, and its impact, especially in a ‘No Deal’ scenario, with just 44 days to go until the withdrawal date.

“With that in mind, all members of the Committee very much welcome the opportunity to hear from Minister Coveney TD as Brexit potentially impacts on many areas of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Defence across Ireland, and beyond”, said Deputy Smith.
