Justice Committee to discuss Brexit bill with Justice Minister

26 Feb 2019, 12:42

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will discuss the justice-related elements of the Government’s Brexit bill with Justice Minister Charles Flanagan TD on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m.

The Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019 proposes legislative actions which Ireland could take in the event that the United Kingdom leaves the European Union under a range of scenarios, including a no-deal Brexit.

“The Bill contains many provisions that are of direct relevance to the Justice portfolio. These include amendments to laws concerning immigration and extradition between the UK and Ireland,” said Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD. “The Committee looks forward to a full briefing from the Minister on how this Bill proposes to address these and other important matters.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
