Justice Committee to hold 2nd meeting on family law reform

On Wednesday, March 6, at 9 a.m., the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will discuss potential reforms to the family law system, its second meeting on the topic.

Scheduled witnesses include

  • Dr. Carol Coulter, director of the Child Care Law Reporting Project
  • Dr. Roisin O’Shea, founder and director of Arc Mediation
  • Sean O hUallacháin SC and other representatives from the Council of The Bar of Ireland, the representative body for barristers
  • Chairperson Ruth Barrington and Chief Executive Damien Peelo of Treoir, the federation of services for unmarried parents and their children

“The Committee has made reform of the family law system a work priority for 2019,” said Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD. “Our deliberations thus far have already borne out the urgent need for such reform. This will be the second of three planned meetings in which we gather the views of a range of stakeholders and leading experts in this area.”
