Health Committee to hear from Chair Designate of National Paediatric Hospital

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow with Mr Fred Barry, in his capacity as Chairperson Designate of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board.

Following the engagement with Mr Barry, the Committee will discuss the National Cancer Strategy with representatives from Cancer Trials Ireland; the Irish Cancer Society; the Health Research Board; Officials from the Department of Health and representatives from the HSE.

Chairperson of the Health Committee, Dr Michael Harty TD said today, “The Committee will meet with Mr Fred Barry in advance of his appointment as Chair of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB). The NPHDB is tasked with delivering the new children’s hospital and Committee Members will discuss Mr Barry’s plans for the project, as well as his experience to date on large infrastructure projects.”

“In the second part of the meeting, we will turn to the National Cancer Strategy and its implementation to date. The Committee has concerns about missed targets and will seek to address these with the witnesses.”

The meeting is due to begin at 9am in Committee Room 3
