Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to discuss horse welfare

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will discuss horse welfare at its meeting on Tuesday, 18 June at 3.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), and the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) are due before the Committee to discuss animal welfare – the control and management of horses.


In advance of the meeting, Committee chair Pat Deering TD said: “Horses have always been an important part of Irish life. The Committee will be briefed today on the work the DAFM is doing in the area of animal welfare in general, with a particular focus on horse welfare issues.


“The LCMA will outline the work local authorities are doing and the challenges they face in regard to “stray” horses.”
