18 Jun 2019, 18:39

The Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment will resume its hearings on the National Broadband Plan, tomorrow, 19 June in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from Professor Eoin Reeves and Dr Donal Palcic, Department of Economics, University of Limerick on the procurement process for the National Broadband Plan (NBP) at the meeting which begins at 5pm.

Their appearance is part of a series of hearings the Joint Committee is holding on the National Broadband Plan. The hearings are focusing on how best to proceed and the best means in which to roll out rural broadband to more than 500,000 homes and businesses.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee chair, Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “The Committee looks forward to hearing the views of Professor Reeves and Dr. Palcic tomorrow.

“The Committee has a particular interest in the roll-out time frame, value for money issues, including cost benefit analysis and the issue of ownership around the broadband plan. It is vital that we get this process right and at the same time not delay the process unduly.  We hope to conclude our hearings in the coming weeks.”
