18 Jun 2019, 12:37

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10am in Committee Room 4, Leinster House to discuss the impact of transport on the environment.

Representatives from National Economic and Social Council (NESC) and Dublin City University (DCU) will come before the Committee to discuss the advancement of the Low-Carbon Transition in Irish Transport.

Building on DCU and NESC research findings, their report identifies a set of recommendations and poses a number of questions for stakeholders who wish to strengthen low-carbon transition in Irish transport.

Ahead of the meeting, the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD, said: “The Committee is well aware that we as a country are at a crucial juncture in developing a response to climate change and transitioning to a low-carbon economy.”

Deputy O’Dowd added: “Governance institutions are key enabling factors for decarbonisation across economy and society, and it’s imperative that we as a committee strengthen low-carbon transition in Irish transport.”
