Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection to discuss Bogus Self Employment

19 Jun 2019, 16:45

The Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will meet tomorrow, Thursday, to resume discussion on the topic of bogus self employment.

Representatives from the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association (IALPA) and Unite the Union will appear before the Committee in Committee Room 4 at 10.30am.

IALPA represents Irish airline pilots, and will address allegations of bogus self-employment of pilots operating for Irish-registered airlines.

Unite, primarily an industry-based union, represents workers across all sectors, including in the construction and English language training sectors.

In advance of these discussions, Committee Chairman John Curran TD said: “The Committee looks forward to continuing our examination of bogus self employment. Since November 2018, we have been investigating the plight of vulnerable workers wrongly treated as self-employed contractors in order to avoid tax and social insurance contributions and employment rights which attach to employment.”
