Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government to meet on two occasions this week

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government will meet tomorrow 2nd July and again on Thursday 4th July to discuss two housing-related matters, including one new topic in the area of Housing for People with a Disability.

On Tuesday at 11am in committee room four, the reclassification and future output of Approved Housing Bodies will be discussed as Representatives from The Housing Alliance and the Irish Council for Social Housing come before the committee. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here

“Approved Housing Bodies, AHBs, play an integral role in the delivery of social and affordable housing in the State with responsibility for over 30,000 homes”, explained Chair of the Joint Committee, Deputy Maria Bailey, TD.

Then, on Thursday 4th July at 9.30am in committee room one, the first of two scheduled meetings on the topic of Housing for People with a Disability will be discussed with The Irish Wheelchair Association and The National Disability Authority, and can be viewed here

Deputy Bailey explained: “People whom The Irish Wheelchair Association and The National Disability Authority advocate on behalf of face several challenges, and one key area of challenge is that of housing, and the input of these key stakeholder groups is most welcome.”

Then, on Wednesday week, July 10, representatives from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, and Dublin City Council are due before the committee for further discussion.
