Justice Committee to hear from Garda Commissioner on Garda reform and new policing model

17 Sep 2019, 01:00

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will meet to discuss Garda reform and related issues with Garda Commissioner Drew Harris tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Ahead of the meeting Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This will be the fourth appearance before the Committee by Commissioner Harris since his appointment last September.

We look forward to this further engagement when we will address the reform and restructuring plans for the new operating model of An Garda Síochána which were launched last month.

Members are particularly interested in hearing more detail on the plans for the reduction in the number of Garda divisions from 28 to 19 and the proposals to devolve control and decision-making to Chief Superintendents in each division.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
