Health Minister and HSE before Oireachtas Committee on Health

1 Oct 2019, 15:57

Health Minister Simon Harris and HSE Director General Paul Reid will appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd October in Leinster House, Committee Room 3 at 9am.

Speaking before the meeting, Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health chairman, Dr Michael Harty TD said: “The quarterly meeting with the Minister and the HSE gives an opportunity for Oireachtas Members to engage with the Minister as part of the accountability process that is central to our democratic processes and values.

“The Committee will, in particular, want to raise issues around the number of patients who are on outpatient waiting lists for an appointment to get a medical assessment and on in-patient waiting lists for medical procedures. These waiting lists are getting longer and there is now a huge element of unmet need in the health sector. The Committee will want the Minister and the HSE to outline how these issues will be tackled having regard to the current financial constraints facing the sector.

The Committee is also likely raised issues around the new capital plan for the sector and on the roll- out of Sláintecare.”
