Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to hear from legal experts on online harassment and harmful communications

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will tomorrow (Wednesday) hear from legal experts when it resumes discussions on online harassment and harmful communications at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Members will hear submissions from cyberpsychologist Dr Mary Aiken, Honorary Professor, Department of Law and Criminology, University of East London; Dr T. J. McIntyre, Chairman of Digital Rights Ireland; and barrister Ronan Lupton.

Ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This is our third meeting to discuss online harassment and harmful communications following our engagements with investigators, child protection experts, social media companies and the internet industry. Members are interested in hearing the options available for reforming our laws to protect internet users from online abuse and bullying.”
