Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to complete discussions on online harassment and harmful communications

22 Oct 2019, 15:47

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will tomorrow (Wednesday) hold its fourth public meeting to discuss online harassment and harmful communications at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Members will hear submissions from SpunOut.ie, Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), National Anti-Bullying Research & Resource Centre and the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

Ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This is the last in our series of engagements on online harassment and harmful communications. Members are interested in hearing the submissions from these bodies about their work to tackle online bullying and abuse and any recommendations they have in terms of legislation and regulation. We will then consider all the evidence we have heard before compiling our report.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
