Climate Action Committee to discuss Ireland’s preparedness ahead of upcoming UN Convention on Climate Change

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, to discuss Ireland’s preparations and contribution to next months United Nations Convention on Climate Change.

Ahead of December’s United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Spain, the Committee will host two separate sessions on the topic with contributions commencing at 2pm from Trócaire, Friends of the Earth, Christian Aid and Professor John Sweeney of Maynooth University.

Following that engagement Officials from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment; and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will appear.

In advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Hildegarde Naughton TD, said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with a range of stakeholder groups and officials to ascertain Ireland’s position and level of preparation in advance of next months meeting.

“All members of the Committee are greatly encouraged to see countries working together in the spirit of multilateralism to address climate change, the biggest challenge facing this and future generations. December’s Convention and Ireland’s contribution will be invaluable.”
