Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence to discuss business and human rights

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to discuss business and human rights with aid agencies and academia.

Deputies and Senators will hear from representatives of Trócaire and Frontline Defenders, as well as Mary Lawlor, adjunct professor at Trinity College Dublin.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s meeting, Committee Chairman Brendan Smith TD said: “In line with its human rights priorities, Ireland is committed to promoting responsible business practices at home and overseas. The impact of business activity on the protection of human rights is increasingly recognised across the globe. Members look forward to hearing from Mary Lawlor, Trócaire and Frontline Defenders on how Ireland is performing, from the perspective of the NGO sector, in regard to its commitment to promoting responsible business.”
