Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to meet with Minister Creed on Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund

25 Nov 2019, 15:13

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) with Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD, to discuss the draft Statutory Instrument on the Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulations 2019.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 4pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House, Committee Chairman Pat Deering TD said: “State funding is vital to the survival of the horse and greyhound industries, which are both important in terms of jobs and revenue. Budget 2020 allocates €84 million for the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund, with 80 per cent going to Horse Racing Ireland (€67.2m) and 20 per cent to Bord na gCon (€16.8m). The Committee looks forward to engaging with Minister Creed on how this exchequer funding will contribute to the continued development of these two industries.”
