Committee on Rural & Community Development to discuss Rural Regeneration and Development Fund

26 Nov 2019, 15:45

The €1 billion Rural Regeneration and Development Fund will be discussed at the Joint Committee on Rural and Community Development tomorrow, Wednesday, in Leinster House, Committee Room 4 at 10.30am.

Officials from the Department of Rural and Community Development will give the Committee of TDs and Senators an update on the Fund to date.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chair Joe Carey TD said: “We have been looking at ways to ensure the future of rural towns and villages as attractive places to live, work in and visit. The Rural and Community Development Fund was established to support economic and social development and to encourage entrepreneurship in rural areas, address depopulation of rural communities and support improvements in our towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000 and outlying areas.

“We will be looking for an update on how much money has been allocated under this fund to date, the type of organisations who are applying for funding, the areas where projects are being funded and the projects being funded, progress to date and future plans for this exciting scheme.”
