The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) to consider a range of petitions, including one seeking reform of the primary school curriculum to respond to needs of children in modern society, including mental health issues, obesity and social media.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House will also consider a petition seeking an update to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 to incorporate offences of cyberbulling, harassment and harmful content. A third petition before the Committee seeks to triple the number of Irish resident observers on foreign election observation missions in the next year.

Committee chairman, Seán Sherlock TD said: “The Committee’s role is to give members of the public the opportunity to place issues of concern directly before the Oireachtas and to influence changes in public policy where appropriate. We will give these petitions our full consideration before announcing, in public session, the decision on each one.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
