Ryanair and Aer Lingus before Oireachtas Special Committee on Covid-19 Response

The Special Committee on Covid-19 Response will hear from representatives of Ryanair, Aer Lingus, the DAA and Shannon Group when it meets, tomorrow, Tuesday,28th July, in Leinster House.

TDs will resume the discussion on the impact of Covid-19 on aviation when they meet, for two sessions, in the Seanad Chamber.

  • Miriam Ryan, Head of Strategy, DAA, Ray Gray, Chief Financial Officer, DAA, and Mary Considine, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shannon Group will appear before the Committee at 9am.
  • Eddie Wilson, CEO, Ryanair, Darrell Hughes, People Director, Ryanair, Sean Doyle, CEO, Aer Lingus and Donal Moriarty, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Aer Linguswill appear before the Committee at 11.30am.

 

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chairman, Michael McNamara TD said: “The catastrophic impact the pandemic response has had on the aviation industry was outlined to Committee members, last week by unions. TDs were warned of a “tsunami” of redundancies and the potential liquidation of Aer Lingus.

“Tomorrow, we will continue our investigation into this sector, when we hear from officials from the management of Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports and officials from airlines; Aer Lingus and Ryanair. The Committee looks forward to discussing the implications for the airline industry of the pandemic and the State’s response to date, on airports, airlines and staff.

“The Committee also wants to delve further into the measures being put in place to protect passengers and staff in airports as the economy re-opens, the reaction to the recently published ‘green list’, potential health screening of passengers coming into Ireland and State supports needed to support and ensure the future of the industry.”

The witnesses will appear from Committee Room 2 and remotely via video link.
