Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) to discuss ‘disappointing and unacceptable’ response from HSE to request for information

The Committee of 13 Members chaired by Deputy Brian Stanley is also due to elect a Vice-Chair.

Deputy Stanley said the Committee will discuss a response received in January 2020 from the HSE to a request from the previous PAC for information for details of non-compliance with tendering requirements for procurement contracts.

“The HSE replied that it was unable to supply the information requested because it did not have a single finance and procurement system and relied on multiple legacy systems,” Deputy Stanley said.

“The HSE said that while it had a plan to move to a single system it would be the first quarter of 2024 before that would be possible. This response is disappointing and unacceptable as the HSE is one of the biggest spenders of taxpayers’ money on procurement. This is something that I think we will need to follow-up with the HSE.”

Separately, the Committee intends to meet with the HSE and the Department of Health next week to discuss the C&AG’s recent special report on the Nursing Homes Support Scheme.

The PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.
