Minister for Health, Acting Chief Medical Officer and NPHET experts before Oireachtas Covid-19 Committee

29 Sep 2020, 19:39

The Special Committee on Covid-19 Response will discuss the Plan for Living with Covid-19 with the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn and NPHET Expert Advisory Group chairman Dr Cillian de Gascun at a meeting in Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday 30 September.

Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group will also appear before the Committee of TDs at the meeting which begins at 10.15am.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Chairman Michael McNamara TD said: “This is the first time the Committee has had an opportunity to question the Minister and members of NPHET on the Resilience and Recovery 2020-2021: Plan for Living with Covid-19. Members want to know the rationale for the plan, the evidence upon which the various levels of restrictions are based and the exact scientific criteria for moving from one level to another.

“Because of the rising cases numbers, people in Donegal and Dublin are currently living with increased restrictions, under this 5-level plan and speculation is mounting that similar “Level 3” restrictions will be placed on more Counties including Galway and Cork.

“The Committee wants to get answers from the Minister on this framework and issues surrounding the health service, as it contends with the pandemic and the impending flu season, before it issues its final report.”

Minister will be joined in by the acting CMO in Committee Room 3.

Both Prof. Philip Nolan and Dr Cillian de Gascun will join the meeting via video link.

Watch the Committee live.
