Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands to meet Minister

6 Oct 2020, 15:59

The Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, at 9am in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House for its first public sitting of this Dáil term.

The Minister of Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands, Heather Humphreys, will attend to discuss the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2020.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chairperson, Denis Naughten TD, said: “We have invited the Minister before the Committee to discuss the Bill as it is clear that these matters are of huge significance as there are less than three months to go until the end of the Brexit transition period.

“We also look forward to Wednesday’s engagement surrounding the Common Travel Area and co-operation between the different jurisdictions in the areas of social welfare and related topics. These include reciprocal arrangements and protections in place for Irish and British people, and the matter of employee rights.

“Amid the uncertainty of Brexit, all eventualities must be planned for as these are important concerns which impact upon all of our people, and all aspects of our society and economy.”

Tomorrow’s meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
