Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss Brexit Omnibus Bill with Minister Troy

The Minister will brief the Committee, Chaired by Deputy Maurice Quinlivan, on the General Scheme of the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2020.

Part 4 of the Bill amends the Companies Act 2014 to facilitate migration of Irish securities from their current central securities depository, Euroclear UK & Ireland, to Euroclear Bank after Brexit. Part 5 provides for a small technical amendment to the Employment Permit Act 2006 to avoid disruption for business when the Brexit transition period ends.

Deputy Quinlivan said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity for Minister Troy to brief Members on the Brexit Omnibus Bill. Brexit will have enormous implications for Irish businesses and trade with Britain and the EU from January 1 next, especially if there is no agreement between the EU and the UK on our future relationship. Members look forward to engaging with Minister Troy on this important legislation.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
