Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to meet Ministers

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will meet tomorrow, Thursday, at 11.30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House for its first public sitting of this Dáil term.

The impacts of Covid 19 on the on the Further and Higher Educational sector and on Research, Science and Innovation Strategies will be discussed with Simon Harris, TD, Minister for Higher and Further Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and Niall Collins, TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Skills and Further Education.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chairperson, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “The impact of Covid 19 has been felt across all areas of society, and none more than in the area of education. With that in mind the committee will be eager to get the insight of the Minister’s regarding the key priority issues  in Further and Higher education, Research, Science and Innovation.

“Other key topics including future funding and reforms in further and higher education, apprenticeships, and longer term national strategies for Research, Innovation and Science, will also be discussed with the Ministers.  It has been a challenging time for all in the Further and Higher education sector, students, staff and parents alike, and also for those involved in, Research, Science and Innovation, and an update from the Ministers with responsibility is most welcome.”
