Joint Committee on Climate Action to complete Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will hold its final engagement on the Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020 when it meets tomorrow, Wednesday, 4 November.

The meeting at 11.30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from five witnesses:

  • Dr Jeanne Moore, Policy Analyst with National Economic and Social Council (NESC);
  • Dr Larry O’Connell, Director of NESC;
  • Sharon Finegan, Head of the Climate Action Unit, Department of the Taoiseach;
  • Ciara Kennedy, Department of the Taoiseach;
  • Professor Kevin Anderson, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change, Manchester University.

Committee Chairman Deputy Brian Leddin said: “This is the Committee’s seventh and final engagement on the Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020, which proposes that Ireland moves to a climate neutral economy and net zero emissions by 2050.

“Members look forward to hearing the views of NESC, the Department of the Taoiseach and Professor Anderson on this important legislation. Following Wednesday’s meeting, the Committee will consider the evidence it has heard over the last three weeks and report back to the Dáil and Seanad so the Bill can proceed to the next stage.”

The Joint Committee on Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
