Oireachtas Committee to discuss Shared Island Unit

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will hear from representatives of the Shared Island Unit at a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 12 November in Leinster House, Committee Room 4 at 2pm.

Officials from the Department of An Taoiseach; Aingeal O’Donoghue, Assistant Secretary and Eoghan Duffy, Principal Officer will brief TDs and Senators on the new unit.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “The Committee looks forward to this engagement on the Shared Island Unit, which was announced in the Programme for Government to work towards a consensus on a shared island.

“The new Unit which has been set up within the Department of An Taoiseach was allocated €500 million in Budget 2021 to fund North-South initiatives over the next five years.  Committee Members look forward to hearing about the objectives and priorities of the Unit, details on the type of Shared Island projects it will prioritise for funding over the next five years, the Unit’s work to date and its plans for the months and years ahead.”
