Sub-Committee on Mental Health to hear from ICGP and IMO

The Sub-Committee on Mental Health will hear from representative of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) and the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) at a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 3 December in Leinster House, Committee Room 3 at 9am

Dr Denis McCauley, Chairman, GP Committee, (IMO) Dr Sumi Dunne, GP Committee, (IMO) Dr Diarmuid Quinlan, Medical Director, (ICGP) Dr Brian Osborne, Assistant Medical Director, (ICGP) are appearing remotely by video link before the Committee.

Speaking before the meeting, chairman of the Sub-Committee, Senator Frances Black said: “Covid-19 has undoubtedly caused much higher than usual levels of symptoms of anxiety and depression in people across the country. People are feeling isolated and disconnected from family and their communities.

“The Sub-Committee’s focus this week is on access to mental health services at primary level. The Committee welcomes this engagement with representatives from the IMO and ICGP to hear about their experience on the frontline and to examine with them the existing pressures on services and get their expert opinion on ways and strategies  to meet growing demand for primary level mental health care.”
