8 Dec 2020, 12:51

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht will discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the film and television production industry when it meets tomorrow, Wednesday, 9 December.

The meeting at 2.00pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from:

  • Representatives of Screen Producers Ireland, Stuart Switzer and Aoife O’Sullivan; and
  • Representatives of Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann, Désirée Finnegan, Chief Executive, Teresa McGrane, Deputy CEO and Gareth Lee, Manager of Screen Skills Ireland.

Committee Chair Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “Ireland’s film and television production industry has been a major success story in recent years but like so many sectors it has been badly hit by Covid-19 as filming was halted in March. The Committee is interested in hearing how the industry has been impacted by the pandemic and the measures that have been put in place to allow film and TV production to restart.”

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
