Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to discuss the effects of Covid-19 on Further Education and Training

9 Dec 2020, 17:15

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will meet tomorrow at 11.30am when the effects of Covid-19 on Further Education and Training will be discussed.

Representatives from SOLAS, Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) and City of Dublin Education and Training Board will come before the committee to give evidence regarding the effects of Covid 19 on further education and training on Oireachtas TV.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chairperson, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “The Committee will explore the effects of Covid-19 on Further Education and Training. To have the key organisations responsible for Further Education and training before us is most welcome.

“Thursday’s witness organisations provide a diverse range of courses and pathways, in towns and cities across the country. For Further Education bodies, their way of operating was really challenged when the pandemic struck, and they displayed a great resilience and flexibility in adapting the courses for a diverse student body. Encouragingly, the admission numbers in September were strong.

Chair Kehoe added:“This form of education is achieved through a mixture of full and part-time courses for traditional learners and includes Adult and Community Education Services.  The diversity of pathways provided is as diverse as the students, and we look forward to learning about the challenges and opportunities which exist across the sector.”
