Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach to hear from Central Bank in first of two meetings this week

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet on two occasions this week, beginning on Tuesday when officials from the Central Bank appear at  1.45pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.

It is the first of two meetings scheduled for this week, with the following witnesses due to appear live on Oireachtas TV.

  • Ed Sibley, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Gráinne McEvoy, Director of Consumer Protection of the Central Bank of Ireland.

On Wednesday, from 2pm, the Committee will hold an engagement on Insurance issues with the Minister of State with responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Sean Fleming TD. The recently published Government Action Plan for Insurance  will be discussed.

In advance of the meetings, Chair John McGuinness, TD, said: “Having heard from the Financial Services Union, and the European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness last week, Banking and Insurance affairs will be the topics for discussion this week.

“Tuesday’s engagement with the Central Bank will look at matters related to the stability of the banking sector, strategic reviews and branch closures, oversight , accountability, and rights for consumers in the areas of banking and insurance. Wednesday will see the committee discuss the recent report on insurance and insurance issues generally.”
