Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration to discuss ‘Unmet Needs’ report with Minister Rabbitte

14 Dec 2020, 15:12

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 December with Minister Anne Rabbitte to continue discussions on the Ombudsman for Children’s Unmet Needs report.

The Minister of State at the Department of Health with responsibility for Disability will be joined at the meeting at 4.00pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House by officials from the Department.

Committee Chair Deputy Kathleen Funchion said: “At our previous meetings to discuss the Unmet Needs report, we heard concerns raised around children missing out on an Assessment of Needs before the age of five due to the long waiting lists under the Early Intervention Scheme. The Committee now looks forward to hearing from Minister Rabbitte on how the Department plans to address this matter and other issues raised by the Ombudsman, as well as by parents and professionals who work with children with disabilities.”

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
