Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to begin Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2021

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will begin Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2021 when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 February.

The meeting at 1pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will be briefed by officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment on the Heads of the Bill.

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “This Bill is designed to transpose into Irish law the ECN+ EU directive, which proposes to make the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Commission for Communication Regulation more effective in overseeing and enforcing competition law. The Committee looks forward to hearing from the Department officials as part of our scrutiny of this legislation, which we understand is a priority for the Government.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
