Committee of Public Accounts to discuss 2019 Financial Statements with Horse Racing Ireland

22 Feb 2021, 15:59

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 February, at 10am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House with representatives of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) to discuss its 2019 Financial Statements.

Horse Racing Ireland will be represented by Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive Officer, and Suzanne Eade, Chief Financial Officer. The Comptroller and Auditor General, Seamus McCarthy, will also attend the meeting.

PAC Chairman Deputy Brian Stanley said: “Under the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act 2001, Horse Racing Ireland is the national authority for thoroughbred racing in Ireland and is responsible for the governance, development and promotion of the industry. HRI is in receipt of significant taxpayer funding through its 80 per cent share of the Horse and Greyhound Fund administered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

“This year, HRI will receive almost €77m from the fund, an increase on last year’s allocation, and it is important that taxpayers know how this money is spent. The Committee looks forward to discussing their 2019 Financial Statements and other matters with the representatives of Horse Racing Ireland.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
