Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to meet tomorrow with the reopening of schools and the 2021 State Examinations among the topics for discussion

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will meet tomorrow when the reopening of schools and the 2021 State Examinations will be among the topics for discussion.

The Safe and Sustainable reopening of schools; Plans for 2021 Junior Certificate; Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied and implementation of the Key Recommendations in the Joint Committee Report on the Impact of Covid 19 on Primary and Secondary Education, will all be discussed.

Tomorrow’s meeting will be streamed live on Oireachtas TV and begins at 1pm in Committee Room 4. The following witnesses will appear before the committee

  • Ms. Norma Foley TD. Minister for Education.
  • Ms. Josepha Madigan TD, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chairperson, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “Everyone in the broader Educational sector and wider society will be delighted to see four primary school classes and Leaving Certificate students return to their traditional learning environment today, and we look forward to discussing the safe reopening, the 2021 State Examinations and related recommendations made in the Committee Report  with the Minister for Education, and the Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion.

Chair Kehoe added: “The Committee is committed to ensuring schools are open in a manner that is safe and sustainable and that the State Examinations can proceed as planned. The Committee also wants to discuss the recommendations in the Committee Report that were arrived at after consultation with key educational stakeholders.”
