Health Committee to hear from HSE chief executive Paul Reid

The Joint Committee on Health will get an update from HSE chief executive Paul Reid on the public health measures to combat Covid-19, at a meeting in Leinster house tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 March at 9.45am.

Mr. Reid will be joined by colleagues; Dr. Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer; Dr. Lorraine Doherty, National Clinical Director for Health Protection; Damien McCallion, Senior Operations Lead for the rollout of the COVID-19 Vaccine Programme,  and Niamh O’Beirne, National Lead for Testing and Tracing.

Speaking before the meeting Committee Chairman Seán Crowe TD said: “Mr Reid’s appearance before the Committee coincides with confirmation that vaccination of people with serious illnesses is due to commence this week. But there are many questions to be answered in connection with this stage of the programme. Who exactly will qualify for vaccination under this part of the rollout, what criteria is being used to identify those most at risk and how will people who qualify be contacted are among the questions to be answered.

“A progress report on the vaccination of over 85s, vaccine supply and the operation of testing and tracing are among the other issues we want to discuss with Mr Reid.”

All of the witnesses and the Members of the Committee are appearing remotely from their offices by Teams video link. The Chair of the Committee, Seán Crowe TD, will be present in Committee Room 2, LH2000
