Joint Committee on Climate Action to discuss reducing Ireland’s Carbon Emissions by 51 per cent by 2030 with Transport Sector

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 March to continue examining how the Transport Sector can contribute to how Ireland can reduce its Carbon Emissions by 51 per cent by 2030.

The meeting will take place at 12.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House with:

  • ·Dr Brian Caulfield – Trinity College Dublin;
  • Dr Diarmuid Torney – Dublin City University; and
  • Anne Graham – Chief Executive Officer, National Transport Authority.

Committee Chair Deputy Brian Leddin said: “The Committee has recommended that a target of 51 per cent reduction by 2030 over 2018 levels be set in the Climate Action and Low-Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020 which is currently before the Oireachtas.

“The Transport Sector accounts for 20 per cent of Ireland’s total emissions and Members look forward to discussing with Dr Caulfield, Dr Torney and Ms Graham how transport can contribute to this target being achieved withing the next decade.”
