8 Mar 2021, 14:30

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet with representatives of the Irish Ombudsman Forum tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 March, as part of the review of the Committee’s Orders of Reference.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Martin Browne at 12.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will hear from Peter Tyndall, Ombudsman, and Justice Mary Ellen Ring, Chair of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.

Deputy Browne said: “The Committee’s remit involves the consideration of Public Petitions by individuals or organisations, matters of general public concern or interest and issues of public policy. The Committee may also consider Ombudsman reports.

“Last year the Dáil and Seanad asked the Committee to review its terms of reference and as part of this process Members look forward to engaging with the Irish Ombudsman Forum before finalising our report.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
