9 Mar 2021, 11:03

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet this evening to resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Affordable Housing Bill.

The purpose of the meeting, scheduled for 6.30pm in Committee Room 3, (watch live), is to engage with representatives from the Land Development Agency

The witnesses are

  • John Coleman, CEO
  • Rose Kenny, Head of Operations, and
  • Phelim O’Neill, Head of Property

In advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Steven Matthews, TD, said: “The Committee looks forward to this engagement with the LDA, a body that has been created to coordinate public land and assist Local Authorities, with a focus on the provision of affordable and cost rental housing.

“The Bill provides for the introduction of three new schemes delivering on the Programme for Government commitment to put affordability at the heart of the housing system and prioritise the increased supply of affordable homes. These schemes will see Local authority led Affordable Purchase schemes, affordable long term Cost Rental on a statutory basis, and expansion of Part V provision to include affordable and social housing and a new Affordable Purchase shared equity scheme where the State would provide equity support to households seeking to purchase homes.”
