29 Mar 2021, 13:45

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will consider Detailed Scrutiny of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Bill 2020 when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 30 March.

The meeting at 9.30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss the legislation with:

  • Officials from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA);
  • Officials from the Health Service Executive (HSE)
  • Representatives from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).

The Private Members’ Bill was introduced last year by Deputy Louise O’Reilly, who is a Member of the Committee.

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “Given what has happened in the last year and what we now understand about Covid-19 and how it is transmitted, it is important to consider how best employers can protect employees in the workplace, and how structures and procedures can be put in place to limit the spread of the disease in the workplace. The Committee looks forward to engaging with the representatives of the HSA, HSE and ICTU as part of our detailed scrutiny of this important piece of legislation.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
