Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine to discuss the Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Bill with Minister McConalogue

The Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine will meet tomorrow morning for two separate sessions, with the Minister, and Macra Na Feirme to attend from 9.30am in Committee Room 3, watch here.

Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Food, Agriculture and the Marine will appear for the first hour, for pre-legislative scrutiny of the Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2021, before Macra Na Feirme attend from 10.30am.

The purpose of the second session is to continue to explore the impact of Good Agriculture and Environment Conditions 2 and broader Common Agriculture Policy negotiations for young farmers.

Ahead of the meeting, Chair Jackie Cahill, TD, said: “This will be our initial engagement and exploratory activity with the Minister regarding this Bill, Fisheries has been a central theme of our work this term. The Minister previously met the committee regarding Fisheries in December in relation to the Pre agri-fish council, and Brexit implications at the time. The second hour on Tuesday will explore the impact of the new CAP on young farmers with a key stakeholder, Macra Na Feirme.”
