Budgetary Oversight Committee to hear from Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe

26 Apr 2021, 13:22

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, tomorrow, Tuesday 27 April in Leinster House to discuss the draft Stability Programme Update (SPU).

The meeting is scheduled to take place in Committee Room 3 at 3.30pm.

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight published its Pre-Stability Programme Update Report 2021 earlier this month, marking the first time the Committee has engaged in ex-ante scrutiny of the Stability Programme Update (SPU).

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Chair, Neasa Hourigan TD said: “The Committee welcomes this engagement with Minister Donohoe on the draft Stability Programme Update.

The Committee’s own pre-SPU report raised some issues that we hope to discuss with the Minister such as Corporation Tax, EU fiscal rules and the tapering of State pandemic supports like the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) and the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS).”

The SPU is submitted to the European Commission each year and outlines the medium-term macro-economic and fiscal forecasts, and in effect broadly outlines the State’s medium-term budgetary strategy.
