The Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine will meet Tuesday afternoon from 3.30pm live on Oireachtas TV when the Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2021 and related matters are discussed across two separate sessions.

In the first hour, in addition to a discussion around the Bill, the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) will appear to explore the 2020 PWC review of organisational capability of the SFPA and the EU Commission's decision to revoke the Irish Control Plan for weighing of fishery products after transport (Article 61(1)).

From 4.30pm the following key stakeholders will appear

·Irish Fish Processors and Exporters Association (IFPEA)

·Killybegs Fishermen's Organisation (KFO)

·Irish Fish Producers Organisation (IFPO)

·Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation (ISEFPO)

·Irish South & West Fish Producers Organisation (ISWFPO)

Ahead of the meeting, Chair Jackie Cahill, TD, said “Three weeks ago the Minister appeared for pre-legislative scrutiny of the Bill, it was our first engagement regarding the Bill as a committee although Fisheries has been a central part of our activity as a committee during this term.

“Many of Tuesday’s witnesses appeared before us towards the end of last year when Brexit neared with big implications for the fishing industry, we look forward to Tuesday’s engagement with important fishing organisations, as the industry is a big part of local economies in coastal communities across the community. We look forward to their insight regarding the Bill. In advance we will have the opportunity to engage with the SFPA regarding a range of matters, from national to EU related issues.”

Later on in the week, on Thursday at 12.30pm Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Food, Agriculture and the Marine will appear before the committee in Committee Room 4, watch live, for pre-legislative scrutiny of the Bill.
