Joint Committee on Climate Action to resume discussions with stakeholders in agriculture and marine sectors on 2030 Target of reducing Carbon Emissions

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House will hear from:

·Dr Catherine Farrell, Trinity College Dublin;

·         Paddy Purser, Pro Silva Ireland;

·         Dr Anita Donaghy, Head of Species and Land Management, BirdWatch Ireland;

·         Oonagh Duggan, Head of Advocacy, BirdWatch Ireland; and

·         Representatives from Teagasc.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “The agriculture and marine sectors account for 35 per cent of Ireland’s total emissions and the Committee wants to explore with relevant stakeholders how the sectors can contribute to meeting the 2030 Target.  Other areas the Committee wishes to discuss include the potential use for nature-based solutions and the state of Ireland’s biodiversity and its relationship with climate mitigation and adaptation.”

The Joint Committee on Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
