26 May 2021, 12:57

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet representatives from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council  (IFAC) at a meeting in Leinster House, tomorrow, Thursday 27 May, to discuss the Fiscal Assessment Report.

IFAC Chair Sebastian Barnes and Chief Economist and Head of Secretariat Eddie Casey are among the witnesses scheduled to attend the meeting virtually in Committee Room 1 at 9.30am.

Speaking before the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Committee Neasa Hourigan TD said: “The Committee welcomes this engagement with IFAC to discuss details of its latest Fiscal Assessment Report. The report assesses the Government’s macroeconomic and budgetary forecasts, the appropriateness of the fiscal stance and compliance with domestic and EU fiscal rules.”

The Irish Fiscal Advisory Council – Ireland’s budgetary watchdog - provides assessments of official budgetary forecasts and proposed fiscal policy objectives. The Council publishes two fiscal assessment reports a year, following the Budget in the autumn and the Stability Programme Update in the spring.
