14 Jun 2021, 17:10

The Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 June, with EU Commissioner for Financial services, financial stability and Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness, to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the E.U. and the U.K.; the Northern Ireland Protocol; and E.U. and UK relations post-Brexit.

The Committee of Senators will meet at 9:30 am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Lisa Chambers said: “The Committee and I welcome the opportunity to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the E.U. and the U.K.; the Northern Ireland Protocol; and E.U. and U.K. relations post-Brexit with Commissioner McGuinness. The Committee had a very interesting debate with MEPs at our recent meeting where we got some insight at an EU level of what is truly happening on the ground around these important issues - topics crucial to the work of our Committee.”

Senator Chambers added: “The Committee looks forward to hearing from the Commissioner, getting her perspective on these issues and continuing this very important conversation.”
