Safe and Sustainable reopening of Further and Higher Educational Institutions to be discussed by Education Committee

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Cathaoirleach, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “The Committee are fully aware that students have been hit hard with health restrictions over the last 12-18 months. Leaving them unable to attend further and higher education institutions to experience the real college or third level experience. But the restrictions were necessary to keep the thousands of students and staff safe and well.

It is now time to look forward and ascertain how we can reopen further and higher education institutions in a safe and sustainable way, following the recommended health guidelines, but also trying to allow everyone involved to experience normal college life.”

The Cathaoirleach added: “The Committee looks forward to the discussion with ETBI, IUA and THEA, regarding the concerns and issues of the representative organisations so that, hopefully, everyone can work together to ensure further and higher educational institutions can welcome back all students for the Autumn Term.”

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
